Tarryl Gabel
Tarryl Gabel, a resident of Hyde Park, NY, was born and raised on a cattle ranch
on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation, North Dakota, and she is an enrolled
member of the Hidasta Tribe. She began painting at an early age and has been
greatly influenced by her grandfather, a self-taught western artist, and by the
native culture.
Living in the Hudson Valley now for twenty years, her influence has shifted more
towards the style of the Hudson River School of Painters and her work is now centered
more around the landmarks and beautiful landscapes of this region. She is currently
studying plein-aire and still-life painting with Keith Gunderson. Her work is
displayed in private collections and corporate settings around the country, and
now in Germany and Italy as well.
Tarryl was chosen to paint an ornament for the White House Christmas Tree. Our
Country’s National Parks was the theme of the decorations this year and her ornament
represented Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Home. She was invited to and attended a special
reception at the White House. The ornament will remain a part of the White House’s
Permanent Collection.
