Dot Chast
Dot grew up in New York City. She majored in art at Lincoln H.S. in Brooklyn,
which was known for its cultural programs. Museum visits and art at home were
a big influence. She was further educated through various courses including sculpture
at Worcester Art Museum, courses at Columbia Greene CC and the Woodstock School
of Art. Her work has been seen often in Greene, Columbia and Ulster Counties at
the Athens Cultural Center and the Greene County Council on the Arts. Dot has
had one person shows at Columbia Greene CC, Congregation Anshe Emeth in Hudson,
Greene County Council on the Arts, and at the Pratt Museum in Prattsville, NY.
Dot has wide ranging interests and likes to learn something new everytime she
works. She does printmaking(monotypes, blockprints, drypoints and some etchings),
pastels, pencils, oils and more. She has her own press and works at home where
she welcomes co-workers when possible. Dot taught "Yes, You can Draw" in the
Columbia Green Community College's program for about ten years and frequently
teaches local classes in drawing or pastel. In Dot's own words "the joy of doing art is rewarded by the people I meet and
work with and the new ideas that come from it all".
Dot was the featured artist at the Greene County Council on the Arts Catksill
Gallery in October 2008 in honor of her many contributions to local art.
